MD, FRACGP
Dr Cecile Arcena obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 1998 and became a Fellow of the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians in 2004. Having acquired a diverse experience in different aspects of family medicine, she migrated to Australia in 2007 and worked as a rural GP in Queensland. Ultimately, she obtained her Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2010 and has since then settled down in Melbourne and continued practicing as a GP.
Her love for General Practice inspired her to pursue further training in the area - notably women’s and children’s health, occupational medicine, travel medicine, and skin diseases including skin cancer. She also has a keen interest in fertility, infertility and preconception care and undertook further studies related to these.
Dr Arcena is an accredited Shared Maternity Care provider for the Royal Women’s Hospital, Sunshine Hospital and Mercy Hospitals. Having done further training, she is also highly-experienced in Implanon and IUD procedures.
She applies her passion for medical education in her roles as a GP educator for University of Melbourne and GP Training Supervisor and examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Dr Arcena believes in empowering her patients to be responsible of their health. This inspires her to pursue further training and learning so she can serve as a guide to her patients in making informed choices and in their journey to achieve optimum well-being.
A note from Dr Khan:
It is with mixed feelings that I make this announcement of leaving Hampstead Medical. I was warmly welcomed here in 2019 and was provided with a very caring and incredibly supportive environment. I have been very fortunate to have met and shared wonderful and courageous therapeutic relationship with my patients, both new and old.
I am however finishing 'conventional' General Practice at the end of September 2024. I've always had an inclination to explore the complex and ever changing biopsychosocial world that every individual inhabits (often subconsciously) rather than purely physical presentations and have decided to step into that domain of medicine and set up my own practice. I will not be managing physical conditions, organising investigations, referrals, prescriptions or doing procedures there. I will be seeing patients/professionals in the capacity of a mental health GP for counselling, coaching and supporting them in their well-being journey. I will not be seeing any patients on Workcover, TAC, or those involved in family court or other legal proceedings. All the consultations will be billed privately regardless of patients having concession or pension cards. My minimum appointment time will be 30 minutes and I will only see those patients for a mental health care treatment plan who do not have one and/or are not engaged with a GP but intend to see me for their counselling. They will be advised to follow up with a different GP for other issues though.
Although this venture has been on my mind for a long time, it has only been the last few weeks that have helped it to materialise emotionally and practically.
My practice is called THOUGHTSPOOL THERAPY and I'll be opening my schedule after all Medicare and administrative takes have been finalised over the next few days.
I wish you all the very best in your lives and thank you once again for the humbling opportunity to have been a part of this lovely team and community.
